Lucian Tapiedi

Lucian (1921-1942) was an Anglican teacher in Papua New Guinea, who was amongst the 333 church workers killed by the Japanese during their invasion. He, together with 10 others, had taken refuge in a village, only to be betrayed to the Japanese by members of the local tribe. He was killed with an axe, while others were beheaded on Buna beach.

Almighty God,
by whose grace and power your holy martyr Lucian Tapiedi
triumphed over suffering and was faithful unto death:
strengthen us with your grace,
that we may endure reproach and persecution
and faithfully bear witness to the name
of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord.
